Speed Racer
You will enjoy this movie if:
- you watched Speed Racer, the animated series
- you appreciate trippy graphics and colorful special effects
- you enjoy crazy car races
- you like family movies with a message
- you don't hate the Wachowski brothers
I would say that it's a family movie but it's not a kids movie. The movie is probably 20-30 minutes too long, and there are some cheesy parts. I didn't mind the cheese as long as they lead to more race scenes.
Any car-related scene was just amazing. It's like the Wachowskis were on acid when they made those scenes.
I loved Matthew Fox as Racer X. It wasn't a meaty role, but he looked great as Racer X. I loved all the scenes with Spridle and Chim-Chim; the little boy and the chimp were hilarious. I was disappointed with the performance of Korean pop star, Rain. English isn't his first language, but that wasn't his problem. He just can't act. Emile Hirsch as Speed wasn't bad. I didn't pay much attention to his acting skills. Whenever he was on-screen, I just wanted the camera to show the Mach-5. Christina Ricci as Trixie was a strange casting decision. She looked a little cracked out and didn't add much to the movie.
It was a great movie to see on the big screen. I'm still thinking about the crazy visuals. I will definitely buy the DVD so I can watch the chase scenes again.

it had a message for the kids but it's not completely a kids' movie. actually i think younger kids might be overwhelmed. it's more for adults.
