If the boyfriend has his way, I'm going to dress up as Machine Girl next year:
In case you haven't seen the movie - it's about a Japanese schoolgirl trying to avenge her brother's death. She gets her arm chopped off by Yakuzas and it's replaced by - what else? - a big ass machine gun. Yes, it is a total gore-fest.
I'll wear the costume if the boyfriend can figure out a way to make a light machine gun attachment. I don't want to be carrying around a heavy prop all day. The schoolgirl outfit will be easy to get.
If you've seen the movie, this part will make sense to you - He thinks I should carry around a rice ball and shove them in peoples' faces for no reason. I think that's a nice touch.
The only problem - will more than a handful of people know who I am? I don't want a costume that's too obscure.
I just finished the first two volumes of Buffy, Season 8.
While I enjoyed both volumes, I didn't love it. I liked the new angle they took, and the artwork was pretty cool. The characters are drawn to like the original actors, so it's almost like watching the TV series again. But there is something missing. Maybe it's because I'm used to seeing and hearing the characters on the screen. I think Buffy's spark translates better to the screen.
On the other hand, they can do more in the comic book form. I don't have to watch crappy CGI. The storylines definitely have more action. I guess I miss the older Buffy stories that were more understated. I liked it when it was just a slayer and her friends against a town of vamps. It's almost as if the comic series has too much going on. As you can see in the cover of Vol. 2, they bring back Faith. Even that storyline was a bit weak.
Both volumes were good, but they weren't great. I heard that vol. 3 is coming out soon, and they're almost done with the 4th story arc. I might wait a while before picking up this series again. I think I'd rather watch the DVD of the earlier seasons.
"Wanted" is one of the best things I've read in a long time. I'm still trudging though my second reading of "Watchmen." I finished "Wanted" in one sitting. It was that good.
If you like stuff like "Preacher" or "The Boys," you'll love this. They have a character named Shit-Head, and yes, he really is made of shit. It's not for everyone. Some people might be turned off by the main character (who looks exactly like Eminem). It's one of those books that you'll either love it or you don't.
And if you don't, you're kind of lame. Just kidding. Sort of.
If you know me, you know I'm a HUGE fan of America's Best Dance Crew. I'm a fanatic. I have to watch it live on Thursday night and I watch the tape later.
This year my favorite crews have made it to the final 3: Super Cr3w, Fanny Pak, So Real Cru
I love all three crews, and I have no problem with any of them taking the title. However, I have a soft spot for Super Cr3w. I've been rooting for this all b-boy crew since episode one. See them in action here
I've seen kids wearing Super Cr3w shirts, and I found out where they got them [link]. I think I want to be a Super Cr3w member for Halloween. Just don't expect me to do air-flares.
Besides the exclusives, I also got a few IWG Zipper Pulls at Comic-Con. I love all of Rocket World's products, and these are the best zipper pulls I've ever seen. Even though they're tiny, they're really well-made and have a lot of details. For example, Affonso the Rhino has painted paws and his horn is painted silver.
These are blind box items, and there are 17 colorways + 4 mystery chase. I'm on the search for the Panda. So far I have the regular Affonso and a GID Hannibal (ape). The boyfriend has a bear and an ape. You can order them here for $3.95 each. They are so worth it.
Here's a high quality pic from NOTCOT:
I first saw this on Yoskay Yamamoto's blog. Wired Magazine has a nice gallery of 10 Things You Should have Bought at Comic-Con. Their picks include some of my favorites like these Rocket World's IWG Zipper Pulls and Yamamoto's Koibito. (I give credit to the the commenter who corrected the mis-spelling of Koibito.)
Most of their top 10 are well-known artists but they added some lesser-known names in there. Overall I like the list, and it's great to see designer toys in a different arena.
We saw a bunch of Obama t-shirts at Comic-Con. One of my favorites was this one:
_______
BAR
ACK
------------
We asked him where he got the shirt and he gave us a vague answer. We couldn't find it. If you know where we can find this BARACK, drop me a note!
EDIT: Found it!! Get yours here.
I showed some restraint this year and only bought a few exclusives. The rest of my money went to random buttons, stickers, and shirts.
Frank Kozik's Black Anarchy Labbit (limited to 100)
Rocket World's GID Astro Krieg - Affonso (limited to 100)
Uglydolls Sleepy Chilly Ice-Bat (limited to 400)

The rice ball thing would be great. You could always go with the drill bra. read more
